Bartender’s Whim – The Irish Buck

Part of our drinks menu at the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro includes a bit of a mystery item – the Bartender’s Whim.  The Bartender’s Whim is really a way to let the incredible bartenders at the Bistro experiment with fun cocktails and twists on drinks that change a bit more regularly than the rest of our drinks menu.  This month, I’m the lucky creator of the Bartender’s Whim, the Irish Buck.

Smirnoff Vodka saw a marketing opportunity back in the day and created a drink they called the Moscow mule.  It was developed as a way to move Smirnoff product more quickly, but was actually a play on an older type of drink called a “buck.”  The term mule eventually became the norm, but a buck or mule is any drink that contains citrus and ginger beer!  Our Bartender’s Whim this week is a revival of the original Irish Buck.  Read below to learn how to make it yourself or stop by to enjoy one with us!

Recipe

  • 3 oz West Cork Irish Whisky
  • 2 oz peach puree
  • Dash of fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz ginger beer
  • Sage to garnish

Shake Irish Whisky, peach puree, and lime juice on ice. Top with ginger beer, garnish with sage, and enjoy!
