Libraries and bookshelves can be intimate and revealing windows into the owner. Here, Max Steven Grossman has taken his love for photography and curated libraries in different themes to pull the viewer in hoping they find some relation and even nostalgia. While his “bookscape” exists only in the 2nd dimension in this photograph, reading the titles and subjects evoke feelings that surpass surface level. This specific work is titled AFF “Art Fashion Film”. Front and center we see names such as Sophia Lauren and Marcel Duchamp who were subject of another nearby artist, Ormond Gigli.

Of his bookshelf series, Grossman says: “My bookscapes reflect the changing nature of books and photographs in present times and emphasize the dreamlike potential of what lies hidden beneath their covers/surfaces. In this work I purposely selected artists who captured the beauty of life with their individual perspectives.”
