Most known for his herds of bunnies, flocks of birds, and kaleidoscopes of butterflies, Hunt Slonem has been a fixture in the modern art scene for decades and can be found in the permanent collections of 250+ museums around the world. Born in Maine, his love of nature, color and animals originates from his travels to South America in college and later around the world. Many of his works are minimalistic compositions where the focus is the beauty and simplicity of the form of the animal. He describes his work with the word “exotica”. His subjects have remained consistent over the years, but he continues to experiment with different creative techniques. Here, we see one of his famous bunny paintings in a thick application of layered colors of paint contrasted with the simplistic outline of the head and ears.

Another pursuit of Slonem’s is close to the heart of the Beacon Hill Hotel. He purchases historic, well-loved but forgotten properties around the country and brings them back to life with his beautifully eccentric, regal, and playful style. Some requiring extensive rehab and renovations while others just need love and a refresh with his iconic style. These homes have become showcases for a lifetime of his work- often placing hundred-year-old portraits alongside a colony of his rabbits or a flock of his birds.
